Students in fifth grade spent one day learning about the color wheel, color families, and monochromatic painting. We learned about key terms like hue, complementary colors, tints, shades, and analogous colors. We created a value grid with 15 different values of one color. We then took all our values and named them to create a color thesaurus, kinda like creating cool new crayola crayon colors. We then took those words to create a color story. This project included a review of writing skills for creative stories and library knowledge. This project was a stepping stone for our unit on painting.
