Imaginary Playground Lesson Example:
For the imaginary playgrounds lesson, the fourth grade curriculum required them to learn about modern architecture. After visiting the Carnegie International and seeing one gallery devoted to playgrounds, I adapted their concepts to fit the needs of our students. We talked about playgrounds from around the world and what the students would want if money wasn't an issue. One thing Langley does not have is a playground. On the students break they play in the courtyard with a few kick balls.
This is when the students got creative with their blue prints that had a birds-eye point of view. After they created the plans and discussed them, they were able to make recycled art and sculptures that brought their blue prints to life. Having three sections of fourth grade complete this project, there were always examples around the room for students that needed more inspiration. http://ci13.cmoa.org/playground
