WELCOME LETTER 2015-2016 My name is Miss Anderson (soon to be Mrs. Dow)! I will be your child’s art teacher for the 2015-2016 school year! Last year was very productive in the art room here at Willow Dale. I cannot wait for the new and exciting projects our amazing boys and girls will be making! I am in graduate school at Moore College of Art and Design. As I continue my own educational journey, I will post updates on my blog about what is happening in the art room! (follow this link below)http://autumnranderson.weebly.com/ The Centennial School District’s Art curriculum is based on the Elements and Principles of Design. It is designed to incorporate all of the National Art Standards. These standards include: working with various media and techniques and understanding the functions of both, exploring symbols, meaning and ideas in art, looking at art throughout history, self-reflection, and assessing the characteristics of the student’s personal work and making connections with art to other content areas. An exciting new part of art class this year is that ALL students in the art classroom will be receiving curriculum sketchbooks!!! These were developed over the summer to include a wide variety of useful tools specific for each grade level. The sketchbooks provide students with many opportunities to plan, reflect, and use their imagination each time they open it up. Our curriculum focuses on an artist and art movement for each grade. First graders will be learning about Henri Matisse and Primitivism. Second graders will focus on Impressionism and Vincent Van Gogh. Third graders will learn about Abstract Expressionism and Pablo Picasso. Fourth graders will focus on Surrealism and Marc Chagall. Fifth graders will learn about Pop Art by Andy Warhol and Chuck Close. Your child will have the opportunity to explore his/her creative side and have fun each week! Please assume when your child enters the Art room that he/she will be involved in a messy project! I recommend that students not wear their best clothes on Art day! I am always looking for help in the classroom. Please contact home and school if you would like to volunteer in the art room! Here is to another great year!
