Hort Woods and Discovery Space:Hort Woods: http://childcare.psu.edu/hw/philosophy.html
Discovery Space: http://www.mydiscoveryspace.org/domain/21 While completing my undergraduate classwork, I interned at Hort Woods Childcare Center working with students six-months to five years of age, and also volunteered at Discovery Space working with children from three-twelve years of age. Both facilities were state of the art and put the students needs first. While at Hort Woods I completed research combing science and the arts, through the use of technology. Discovery Space is a compact museum of interactive exhibits, along with a studio space. At Discovery Space I lead workshops for students to come in and try combining the arts and science through center based projects focusing on different themes each class. At Discovery Space I also co-lead a week summer camp that had a final exhibition at the end. All of this is presented through my research paper, a photo gallery, and different flyers that contain different projects of exploration with photographs. Saturday Art School: Saturday Art School is an eight week program at Penn State, where undergraduate art education students are partnered with a co-teacher to develop an entire unit curriculum, purchase materials, lead eight weeks of classes, and then create a final exhibition. My teaching partner, Nicole and I developed Overlapping Layers, which introduced students to new art making processes that were very time and labor intensive. Images and curriculum are provided on the Saturday School page.
Overlapping Layers Final Exhibition: After eight weeks of teaching Saturday Art School the final work is presented in an exhibition. These photographs represent the end of the year exhibition my teaching partner and I curated to display the hard work our students put in all semester
Curio's Backyard Final Exhibition: Curio's Backyard was a week-long science and art camp that I co-taught with a professor of Art Education at Penn State. We spent an entire week exploring the world around us through science experiments and art making practices. This final exhibition encompasses all of the students hard work and research.
