While we were finishing up our Picasso self-portraits, third graders began to design a monster/alien/creature that utilized the same concepts we learned about while creating our self-portraits. First we designed a monster by using many lines and shapes. Also thinking about our background with the use of a sharpie. Then we used a crayon to add details like lines and patterns. Finally to add color we painted with watercolor paints. This project reviewed the key things needed for abstract art: lines, shapes, and color. It also reviewed art basics like composition, drawing to fill paper up, how to turn a mistake into something new, watercolor resist painting, and many elements/principles for art.
